“You will be the same person 10 years from now except for the people you meet and the books you read.” - Charlie Tremedous Jones
In that spirit, here’s some the great books that have shaped me.
Spiritual
- The Bible, by God — Okay, so this is kind of a gimme. But, this particular printing of the Bible has become one of my most valued possessions since I got it for my birthday a few years ago. These guys have been making Bibles since the 1500’s, so they know what they’re doing. It’s NIV and has great wide margins to write in.
- Desiring God, by John Piper — Discover how to have joy in your Christian life. Best Christian book I’ve read in years. Also, available as a free e-book if you want to preview it or you like reading things on your computer.
Work
- Good to Great by Jim Collins — Simple concepts on how “Good” organzations become “Great” (or what seperates the men from the boys.) Full of interesting case studies and applicable to lots of areas of your life or organziation.
Money
- Total Money Makeover, by Dave Ramsey — Solid Biblical advice and planning tools for managing the money God gave you. The author also has a daily radio show that’s worth checking out.
- The Millionaire Next Door, by Thomas J. Stanley, William D. Danko — A couple of economists set out to survey people who have amassed more than $1 million net worth excluding their house. This book documents their findings. A little nerdy, but they let the data speak for itself. Really changed my thinking.
Physical
Seven Steps to Pain Free Living (How to Rapidly Relieve Back and Neck Pain) by Robin McKenzie — I watched this book transform my brother’s life. He went from taking massive pain killers and muscle relaxers to being drug free by following the exercises in this book.
