The Naming of the Girl

As most of you know, Holly is pregnant with our second child. We’re having a girl, and her name will be Abigail Lila Wallace.

It’s kind of a long story how she got that name. It was the result of much prayer and conversation. We wanted a name with deep meaning, that would be a blessing to her all her life.

First, Abigail was a righteous character in the Bible. She is described as “an intelligent and beautiful woman.” Righteousness, intellence, and beauty are obviously characteristics we want for our daughter.

Next, her name means “God is Joy” or “Father’s Joy.” This year we have been learning to take joy in God and the blessings he has given us.

Last, her brother and others helped confirm it to us. While Holly and I were considering names, several people came up to us out of the blue and asked, “Have you thought about Abigail?” That, and one day Grady is jabbering away to Holly and said, “Da-da, Ma-ma, G-G (his name for himself), Abbey.” Then we knew that was it.

Lila is a family name. Lila was Holly’s great aunt who loved Jesus, and kept a great family history. Plus, we just really liked the name.
